Constitution & Quality Goals

The core philosophy behind Boundline and Canon is built on the pursuit of extreme engineering quality, predictability, and safety.

Quality Objectives

Our commitment to quality is enforced structurally through our CI and continuous evaluation processes. We do not just aim for functioning code; we aim for mathematically sound and secure code.

  • Grade A Quality Gates: We strictly enforce "Grade A" ratings across all static analysis fronts—Security, Reliability, and Maintainability. Any drop below the highest quality gate blocks the delivery pipeline.
  • Strict Code Analysis: Every commit must pass rigorous linting checks, with all warnings treated as build failures to ensure zero-tolerance for code smells or undefined behaviors.
  • Dependency Governance: We actively audit our entire dependency tree to enforce strict compliance with approved licenses, block vulnerable packages, and prevent the introduction of unverified or banned sources.
  • Coverage & Testing: We maintain high code coverage thresholds (consistently >90%) verified through deterministic and comprehensive test suites to prevent regressions and guarantee operational stability.
  • Documentation: All modules, data structures, and functions must maintain up-to-date documentation explaining the why and the business constraints, not just the what.

Why Rust?

Both Boundline and Canon are written entirely in Rust (Edition 2024).

The choice of Rust is foundational to our vision for several reasons:

  1. Memory Safety & Correctness: Rust's ownership model eliminates entire classes of runtime errors (like null pointer dereferences and data races) at compile time.
  2. Predictable Performance: With no garbage collector, Rust provides consistent and predictable latency, which is critical when acting as an orchestrator or a fast CLI tool executing thousands of local checks.
  3. Robust Tooling: The cargo ecosystem provides world-class package management, formatting, linting, and testing out-of-the-box.
  4. Fearless Refactoring: In an environment focused on AI-assisted development, having a compiler that strictly enforces types and concurrency rules means AI-generated code changes are bounded by rigorous mathematical correctness before they even compile.

Rust enforces discipline, perfectly mirroring the core intent of our semantic governance and bounded cognitive runtimes.
